He gave a short nod and smiled. “Alright then, here— I’ll make a call, then we can get started.” He pulled out the phone from his pocket and started punching in a few numbers, waving for her to follow him back into  the house.

It took a bit of convincing, considering evidently he had made quite the wave when he had ran off— but the man he called finally agreed to grabbing his car for him with compensation of course— and Caesar decided to throw in the car they have now as well. He needed a way to get back and they really didn’t need it after that anyway.

He hung up and looked up at her. “An old friend of mine.” His lips pursed into a smile. “Used to work together.” He moved over to the couch, offering her to sit. “Hmm…well, lets see..I don’t know how much they’ve kept from you…” The corner of his lips quirked. “Any…math? Or reading and writing?” He asked, trying to think of basics and somewhere to start.

“I know the basics.” She told him after a second, looking up at him from the pillow she still held in her lap where she sat on the couch. “I had to be able to ‘pass’ for a civilian. Some reading, basic arithmetic, and I can sign just about anything convincingly… haven’t ever really tried sentences, mostly just names they provided.”

“No, go ahead.” He nodded with a smirk as he walked out of the room.

After giving a tour of the rest of the home— his bedroom, the bathrooms, some of the closets, he walked back toward the living room/kitchen area where there was a sliding door to the backyard.

“There’s about twenty acres here.” He said a he walked outside, then looked back at her. “That way if you go up in flames, we won’t be disturbing anyone.”

She followed him through the house, pillow tucked against her chest, feeling for the first time, a sense of safety and calm about her surroundings. This would be home; a real home.

Stepping outside behind him, she looked around as he spoke, his words about the flames catching her attention and drawing and odd look from her. “I will try my best not let something like that happen.” She was really starting to like the place, even after just the few minutes they’d been there.. the thought of burning it down did not sit well in any way, shape, or form.

He nodded. “I do think we’ll be safe here. From what I’ve gathered, a lot of people who aren’t supposed to be around take refuge here.” He rubbed his chin. “Still. If I had my own car back, it might’ve been a good asset to have to feel more secure.” His car. Many of his tools, defenses, and devices had been in the thing. It was the one thing he wished he hadn’t left behind.

He snapped his fingers. “I might be able to have a connection get it back here. The vehicle we have isn’t going to do much good if they come a’ calling…” The side of his lips tugged a bit.

“In the meantime, maybe we should have you learn a little more than the bits and pieces they’ve allowed you to, hm?” Reading, was probably one of the first things he should probably try to work with.

She didn’t quite jump, but her gaze shot back to him when he snapped his fingers. The thought of them ’coming to call’ made her skin crawl and a shudder move down her spine, but she just nodded.

To his suggestion that she should learn more, she glanced back out at the backyard, considering for a moment. Perhaps she was a bit stupid. They’d always treated her that way.  But maybe there was only one way to find out. She just found herself hoping his methods of teaching were…different, from the ones she’d already met with. “Alright…”

“I’m glad.” He chuckled, moving out of the way of the door a bit. “You’re welcome to step in, you know.”

She glanced at him with a half smile, then stepped carefully into the room, almost like she half expected to get in trouble for it, before she visibly relaxed and began to walk around. Walking around like she was studying the walls, the big windows, even reaching out to trail her fingers over the chair and end of the bed. They were for her. Comfortable and pretty, and for her. Suddenly, she felt like crying, but that was stupid. Her eyes watered a little and her smile was wide as she looked back up at Caesar, gesturing to the bed slightly. “Can I..?”

He took one or two steps further into the room after she had, putting his hands in his pockets. He smiled as he saw her look around, and nodded at the question. “Go right ahead.”

She didn’t need any further encouragement  slipping off her shoes and half jumping, half crawling into the soft squishy bed and flopping over on her back.  Snuggling into the down comforter and making a delighted sound that she had likely never made before.

Humming warmly in the back of her throat, she pulled on of the soft pillows down and cuddled it against her chest and face.  She’d never had anything like this. Never a bed of her own or a pillow, or covers like this.  The closest she’d gotten to experience were the beds in the hotels they had stayed in the last couple of days, and they had been sadly lacking in comparison to the softness she was laying in now.

“This is wonderful.” She murmured, almost reverently as she cuddled the pillow, nestled in her now mussed heap of comforter.

“I’m glad you like it.” He nodded again and smiled warmly. “You deserve it.” He said without really thinking.

She couldn’t think of anything she’d done to deserve it… but she loved it. After a life time of not having anything but the bare restricted necessities, the bed was a place of wonder. She knew she couldn’t stay there, the rest of the house still awaited them.

So finally she shifted and slid off the bed reluctantly, pausing and looking from him back to the bed for a moment…. before picking up the pillow and hugging it against her chest then walking back to him. “You mind if I…?” She asked, glancing down at the pillow.

“We are, yes… Do you like the choice?” He asked as he walked in and looked around, then looked back at her with a small smile hinting at his lips. “I figured brick might be a better choice than something like wood…”

“Yeah.” She nodded as she walked in behind him, looking around, a slow faint smile spreading along one side of her mouth. “Probably a good decision. It’s really nice…” She muttered, still looking around more as she moved through the entrance into the house, still somewhat dumbstruck about the whole thing.

“I’m glad you like it.” He nodded. “And well, since the house is stocked with everything now, you want to take more of a look around?” He asked, gesturing to the rest of the house. During the past few days that they had been setting everything up, though the house had already been furnished, they had gotten things like clothing, food, things for entertainment, stuff for the kitchen, bathroom, and other smaller but necessary things for a life and home.

“Yes.” She nodded, already looking around but waiting for him to lead the way, since, even as comfortable as she was with him by now, she was still somewhat wry of going where she wasn’t sure she was allowed.

“Alright,” He nodded, and moved further into the house. They had entered through the living room and to the right was the kitchen.  Down the hallway was the two bedrooms and bathroom.

He opened the door of one of the bedrooms, “here’s your room, I figured you’d like the change with your own space?” He gave a small smile.

She peeked around him, looking into the room. She’d technically had her own ‘space’ before, but this was so very different from her cell. Windows and a bed for one thing, comfy chair in the corner, other furniture  A small smile pulled at her lips and she nodded, looking in a little more, peeking her head inside the door. “It looks very nice.”

“Well, we midaswell start looking for some place we would want to live around here.” He nodded with a small smile, and got back in the car with her.

It had taken a few days to get everything set up, between a house and repeating the process they had had to do with more of the banks but they seemed to get easier after the first run. Since he didn’t want to draw  attention to them, he didn’t want to get a huge three story house in the middle of the city, rather what he got was a decent ranch style house that wasn’t too far away to be in the middle of nowhere where they could go lost and no one would notice, but also picked a place that if something were to happen with the flame thing of hers, it wasn’t going to put a whole lot of people in danger. It had a decent amount of land, and he figured stone or brick would probably be a better choice as opposed to something like wood. If nothing else, at least the frame might stand an ok chance should she loose control.

“Well, here it is.” Caesar shrugged with a smile back over at her, curious about her reaction to her own new home since… well. A cell probably didn’t exactly measure up.

Inferno looked out the window of the car at the cozy looking house. A house, a real house, and she was supposed to live in it with him. Something about that fact squirmed inside of her, curling around her heart in a faint happy squeeze. It had been a long few days, but the best she could remember. No being prodded awake in the middle of the night, no force tests or exercises, no blood work, no ability drills, no screaming orders or being hit for not listening.  No waking up to a strange man on top of her and biting the inside her mouth till it was over.

None of the horrors from the past twenty five years left in the physical world when she woke. No, she got to leave them in her nightmares. And now there was a house. Something she’d only ever dreamed about. She had to blink back something moist that prickled at her eyes for a moment and glanced back at Caesar. “Are we really gonna live here?”

“It certainly was quite the distraction.” He laughed slightly, “It’s fine, it worked. I think they were too busy to tie the cause of it to you but even if they did I don’t think they’d get much of anywhere with it seeing as though neither of us, you especially— exist when it comes to knowing who you are, where to contact you or anything like that.”

She nodded in a silent ‘oh’ gesture, and even smiled a little in the corner of her mouth. “Did you get what you need?”

“I did, yes. I think we’re all set.” He nodded, “judging by that though I think what I can do next time is hack into it so I can use it all from my card but fluctuate or censor where the money is being sent on and the whereabouts of it. That way I don’t have to out so much in cash.” Which he set up this time so he didn’t have to do it again for this one, but being that he had well over a few million, he had had to use a few banks otherwise they wouldn’t have covered it all.

Nodding again, following what he said as best she could. It was good, it wouldn’t be as difficult to get what he needed next time. This was probably about as much as she needed to understand, and she did, so it was good.

“What now?” She asked, brushing some ash from the front of her shirt where the lamp had thrown sparks when it had burst into flames, leaving behind a few small holes.

“Well, we midaswell start looking for some place we would want to live around here.” He nodded with a small smile, and got back in the car with her.
